SEDATION DENTISTRY IN CENTREVILLE
We understand that some patients are apprehensive about going to dental appointments. For many people, going to the dentist is one of their greatest fears. If you have ever avoided dental care because of fear or anxiety, or if even the thought of going to the dentist makes you anxious or nervous, sedation dentistry may be able to help.
Sedation dentistry has proved to be very effective for those with dental fears, but it also helps us get more work done in each appointment. Some people postpone much-needed dental treatment because their busy schedules make it very hard to schedule multiple visits. With sedation, our dentists can handle complex dental issues in fewer appointments - sometimes in just one!
Sedation can help people who have:
- Dental fears
- A bad gag reflex
- Aversion to dental sounds and smells.
- Resistance to anesthetics.
- Past bad dental experience.
- Fear of needles and drills.
How Does Cascades Provide Sedation Dentistry?
Our dentists can offer several types of sedation: nitrous oxide, oral sedation or I.V. sedation.
Nitrous oxide is a gas you inhale which allows complete relaxation during your visit.
Oral conscious sedation involves taking medication specific to your needs prior to having dental work. You will remain conscious and able to understand and follow directions. Fortunately, sedation medications have an amnesic effect. Not only will you feel like you slept through the appointment - when it’s over the whole thing will just feel like a dream!
We also offer I.V. sedation for those who need or want the ultimate in appointment comfort. Our IV sedation is performed in our office by a board-certified anesthesiologist, and you are constantly monitored for safety and effectiveness throughout the entire procedure.
The Sedation Appointment
As your comfort is our highest priority, we won’t begin any treatment until you are completely relaxed and comfortable. You’ll stay totally relaxed in our comfortable denial chair, covered in a warm blanket. During the visit your level of comfort, sedation and vitals will be continually monitored so that your visit is completely safe. When your treatment is completed your companion will take you home. You will probably just take it easy for the hours after your sedation treatment, but the next day will be just a regular day.
